Help! I’m in a RUT!

Have you said this or are you currently saying this? The definition of a rut is a habit or pattern of behavior that has become dull and unproductive.  Where in your life are you feeling this? Work/career? Health/well-being? Home/family life? Finances? Other areas?  I definitely have said this in all areas of my life at some point in time.  Yeah, yeah, yeah, you may say but how can I get out of this rut?  I’ll share 3 things that are helpful to me and who knows maybe they can help you too!

  1.  Start by appreciating the things that are going right for you.  How many times have you asked someone or has someone asked you “What’s wrong with you?”  Perhaps a better question to start  asking is “What’s going right with you?”   Notice how different you start to feel just by looking for what is going right in your life.
  2. Look for ways to improve upon the things that you appreciate.  Example: Maybe you appreciate having a home but you notice things are disorganized, cluttered, and in need of cleaning.  Instead of going into overwhelm, pick one room to start in and set a timer. It can be for 15,30,60 minutes. Set the timer and start. When the timer goes off, stop.  Notice the feeling of accomplishment from just starting! Sure you may have more to do in that room but it is less than when you first started.  Keep doing this in intervals that work with your schedule.
  3.  Stay consistent in your appreciation.  Consistently focusing on the things you appreciate( no matter how many or how few)  creates even more things to be grateful for in your life!
